The Lap-Band® System

Adjustable gastric banding, occasionally described as the LAP-BAND® system, is a minimally invasive weight management surgical procedure. It is commonly an outpatient treatment, with a recovery time of about one week.
The flexible band is positioned around the top section of the stomach restricting the amount of food that will travel through it, consequently assisting the individual in attaining weight loss.
The LAP-BAND® treatment does not require any sort of re-routing of the anatomy, or any type of stapling. This will leave the patient with a gentler recovery duration than other kinds of weight reduction surgery.

LAP-BAND® patients lose an average of 60% excess weight in the first 5 years. Join over 860,000 happy clients who chose the LAP-BAND® System. Book a consultation to learn how LAP-BAND® can help change your life!*

What Our Patients Say

Amanda Peterson photo

Chelsi

When I made the decision to get Lap Band® I wasn't just doing it for myself, but for my daughter as well. What I didn't consider is how much it would dramatically change our lives for the better. Not only do I feel like myself again for the first time in years, but I have gained the tools I so badly needed for a better and healthier lifestyle that will last a life time. From an outsiders perspective lap band may seem like an easy fix, but this journey takes a strong person. This isn't another crash diet. Lap Band® has taught me how to be dedicated to being a healthy person, and how to put my unhealthy habits to bed once and for all. Lap band has restored my confidence and shown me that I am worth a new beginning and a better future! It seemed like such a long road, so many trials ahead of me when I decided to embark on this journey to a better ME... But it is by far the best decision that I have ever made for myself and for my child. Everyone deserves to feel whole, happy and complete, and with lap band I can now genuinely say that's exactly what I am.... HAPPY!

About Dr. Adam Smith, DO, FACOS, FASMBS

Dr. Adam Smith fights obesity on a personal and professional level. He is not just a bariatric surgeon, but also a patient.

After watching his patients and their success with the LAP-BAND® system, Dr. Smith chose to undergo LAP-BAND® surgery in 2002 to aid in his own personal weight loss. After losing 100 pounds himself, Dr. Smith was able to relate to patients and their everyday struggles. This knowledge has helped him develop one of the most comprehensive aftercare programs in North Texas. Dr. Smith has led the battle on many different fronts by standing up for the rights of the obese population.
In 2010, he was appointed as a spokesperson by the Obesity Action Coalition and Allergan as part of the Voice my C.H.O.I.C.E. campaign. This campaign gave Dr. Smith the opportunity to speak to congressional representatives about his experience with obesity, and the policy reform he would like to see. He continues to advocate for obesity by devoting some of this time as the President of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons for 2013. This honor helps Dr. Smith keep obesity and its related diseases in the forefront of discussions and policies amongst his peers. Dr. Smith has been a surgical trainer for Allergan’s LAP-BAND® system for years. He trained many surgeons from across the country, and now is a surgical trainer for the new iBand. Topics such as obesity, the LAP-BAND® system, as well as business and marketing techniques have been lectured internationally by Dr. Smith.
